Jack’s Place is a well-known place with a long past and a special place in the hearts of the people who go there. The story of Jack’s Place started when Mr. Say Lip Hai, who was from the island of Hainan, went to Singapore. As a cookboy for the British troops stationed in Sembawang, he started his journey in the kitchen. He got better at making the right roast beef and Yorkshire pudding during this time.
Mr. Say’s life changed when a British woman was so impressed by the delicious tastes of his food that she suggested he work with her husband, Jack Hunt, in their pub on Killiney Road. In 1966, this is how Jack’s Place came to be. Even though Jack Hunt left the business and let his namesake “Jack the Chef” carry on the business, the spirit of the relationship lives on.
At the moment, Jack’s Place has become a place where families and groups of friends go when they want a great meal.
